This painting is about light and Victorian houses. I captured this walking the dogs near Bayou St John. I loved how the sun was going down, splashing the shadows on the steps. The suns yellow light turned the red house almost orange. The shadow on the porch light with the lightbulb canceling some of the shadow was appealing to me as well. I love walking around the neighborhood. We have thought about moving to another area a few times, but I think living among these victorian houses is one of the many reasons we stay. New Orleans has the largest stock of old homes still in use of any city in the us. Our home is “new” as it was built in 1910.
