Frames:
Sometimes I am asked to make a frame for a piece of art by a customer.
Here are some bullet points that I hope will clarify what I can offer. If you see me at a festival or show selling my original paintings, these will have been framed by me. Also this page describes The materials I use and steps I take to preserve my artwork.
Frames made custom from reclaimed cypress or long-leaf pine
Wood frames are sealed with low-sheen natural finish polyurethane.
The lens (glass for the frame) is made from 1/8” thick acrylic with a matte finish on the outside of the frame to prevent glare. (See photo)
The white cotton rag matt board, Backer foam board, adhesive, and backing paper are all acid-free archival materials.
Watercolor and gouache paintings will be coated with a matte varnish spray, providing protection from water damage and from ultraviolet light made by Golden Art Materials.
All original artworks will be signed and include a certificate of authenticity.
Only professional quality lightfast (where possible) paints used.
Artist grade lightfast (where possible single pigment paint are used. Using single pigments gives me more control in the color mixing process and gives me piece of mind knowing that there are no fillers in the bait that may cause adheasion problems in the future.
Oil paintings take weeks to dry in the studio near a dehumidifier.
Once dry enough, they are varnished with Gamvar varnish made by Gamblin Art Materials. This is for protection from atmospheric elements, and should the painting be refurbished in the future, it can be removed with turpentine.
This product comes in a matte, satin, or gloss finish. If there is no frame for an oil painting, the edges will be painted black, and a wire will be installed, making it ready to hang.
All original artworks will be signed and include a certificate of authenticity.
Floating frames
I can build a floating frame for canvas paintings upon request, They come in two styles. They are typically made from clear poplar or pine and finished with black lacquer. The finish can be gloss or matte.
For an extra charge, the second style is a reclaimed long leaf pine or cypress frame finished with a hand rubbed polyurethane. This wood comes from old New Orleans houses and will have marks that show this. See pic.
I offer Prints of my work to try and make it accessible to as many people as possible. I can make prints on cotton acid free paper or I can print them on canvas.
All prints are of the highest quality available. They are made with twelve colored pigments that are lightfast and archival. Kept out of the sun, fine art prints will not fade for generations. I can make a paper print of an oil painting, but a watercolor will always be on paper.
All prints with an 11x14” image size or larger will come with a certificate of authenticity signed and dated by Sean. They will also be embossed with the studio logo.
Canvas Prints:
Canvas prints can be bought rolled up in a tube, or stretched on a wood frame. For an extra charge, I can make a floating frame as described above. The picture of the Cabrini Bridge to the right is an example of a canvas print that has been stretched and a reclaimed long leaf pine wood floater frame installed. Canvas prints will have an acrylic Varnish installed to protect the pigments from scratches and reduce the harm caused over time from UV sunlight.
Prints on paper:
Prints on paper will be printed on Cotton rag or regular low sheen paper. Both are acid free and archival quality. The prints I sell on this website are prints that I physically have on hand. I will not usually do custom orders for print sizes unless there is just no other way to satisfy a customers need.
